Martin Shalita, Tenor

A native of Miami, Florida, Martin Shalita holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Vocal Performance from the University of South Florida and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Miami. Dr. Shalita began his professional career with Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Germany. Highlights from these seasons include Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La cenerentola as well as roles in Lady Macbeth von Mzensk, Don Carlos, Moses und Aron, Fidelio, and Il tabarro. Subsequently, he was engaged with Theater Koblenz for four seasons, where he gained public and critical acclaim for his performances of Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, the title role in Offenbach’s Orpheu in der Unterwelt, Andres in Berg’s Wozzeck, Araquil in La Navarraise by Massenet, Steuermann in Der fliegende Holländer by R. Wagner, Paolino in I matrimonio segreto by Cimarosa, Ivan in Shostakovich’s Nos, and Admeto in Gluck’s Alceste. He also performed Tony in Bernstein’s West Side Story and Magaldi in Webber’s Evita, both in-house and on the ancient fortress of Ehrenbreitstein in open-air performances.

In 2015, he performed Des Grieux in Massenet’s Manon with Theater Nordhausen and Dr. Siedler in Bantzky’s Im Weissen Rössl with the
Schlossfestspiele Zwingenberg, as well as Ismaele in Nabucco by Verdi with Opera Classica in Buc, France. "The Chevalier Des Grieux was portrayed uniquely by Martin Shalita. His flexible top register was wonderfully secure, and poured ou pure harmony [...]" Friedeon Rosén - Der Online Merker

In 2016, Dr. Shalita returned to Buc, France to make his debut as Lt. Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and in 2017 made his debut as Calaf in Puccini’ Turandot with Staatstheater Cottbus. “Striking in metallic vocal sound with a secure top in attack and sound quality is the young American tenor, Martin Shalita.” Dieter David Scholz - O-Ton, online May 2nd, 2017. Dr. Shalita returned to Staatstheater Cottbus in 2018 to make his debut as Edwin in Kálmán’s Die Csárdásfürstin and in 2019 as Erik in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer

 

In 2024, he made his debut as Radames in Verdi’s Aida as a member of a touring production throughout Germany.
 

Dr. Shalita is also an established concert artist, having performed as a soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana and Bartók’s Cantata Profana with the Internationale Bach Akademie in Stuttgart, Germany.

Ian Greenlaw, Baritone

Baritone Ian Greenlaw merges the musical and dramatic arts with what the Chicago Sun-Times referred to as "a voice both strong and sweet."; He has performed a wealth of principal roles with opera companies on both sides of the Atlantic. These include New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Spain, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Pittsburgh Opera, Kentucky
Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, Opera Colorado, and Opera Theatre of St. Louis, to name a few. A gifted concert artist, Ian Greenlaw has performed as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Saint Louis Symphony.  Ian Greenlaw has performed alongside
giants in the field of opera and symphonic works, with such conductors as Lorin Maazel, Pierre Boulez, James Levine, David Robertson, and Jane Glover. An avid recital performer, Ian Greenlaw has sung at Carnegie Hall and with presenters such as the Marilyn Horne Foundation and the Steans Institute at the Ravinia Festival. His passion for singing is built on connecting with audiences, strengthening cultural bonds, and invigorating the artform he holds dear by working with living composers. 

 

Ian Greenlaw has degrees from the Eastman School of Music, the University of North Carolina- Greensboro, and the University of Michigan, where he received his Doctorate of Musical Arts. He serves as Director of Opera Scenes at the Interlochen Center for the Arts during its summer vocal arts program, where he has been mentoring young artists for the past 10 years. Dr. Greenlaw currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts, and is an active freelance performer, opera director, and vocal instructor. He is delighted to perform again with Maestro Sturgis and the North Carolina Master Chorale, with whom he made his debut performance in Carmina Burana at the very onset of his career.
